Current State Symposium in the COVID-19 Pandemic
Moderated by our Assistant Rector Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Tuncay, the "Current State Symposium in the COVID-19 Pandemic" was held with the participation of our Rector, Faculty of Medicine Dean, Assistant Dean of Faculty of Medicine and our academicians.
In the opening presentation; Stating that our university has gained very serious experiences during the COVID-19 Pandemic, Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Tuncay passed on the speech to our Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Ramazan Özdemir in order to convey what happened in this process.
Prof. Dr. Ramazan Özdemir stated, “It is very pleasing to be together with you and share our knowledge and experience during this period when COVID-19 is extremely intense. The pandemic process has been very difficult. This process should be summarized in 2 separate sections. We had a lot of difficulties in the first process. In the second process, we were more experienced" and continued on as follows:
“The pandemic process is a process that not only has intense physiological effects, but also psychological. Talking to our students through cameras has become boring and tiresome. During this process, we realized the importance of being together and face-to-face communication. We understood the value of independence, acting with free will, and health. We had casualties, and there were also those who had a severe illness. But as a country, we have fought well and we are fighting. As Bezmialem Vakıf University, we have undertaken an important mission and gained important experiences as a pandemic hospital. We were at the forefront of this heavy and tiring struggle, and we came out very well."
Beginning her opening speech, our Rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu stated, “We began to realize COVID-19 as of January 2020. Therefore, our preliminary preparations started on these dates. With the belief that we can control this process towards the summer, each of us, from our management team to our physicians, nurses, porter and administrative staff, worked wholeheartedly. We hospitalized and treated 1376 COVID-19 patients in our hospital. We lost 129 of our patients. With the new measures and restrictions, the number of patients hospitalized in our hospital has decreased considerably, especially in the last two weeks. We also follow up our students whose families or themselves are affected by COVID-19. This is not an issue that only concerns healthcare professionals, but a problem that concerns and affects humanity. We all had to evolve towards the new normal in the life we live. Bezmialem gave a very tough test at this point. Thanks to our experienced physicians, we successfully passed this exam. I thank each and every one of them".
Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Prof. Dr. Meliha Meriç Koç, who moderated the symposium, stated, “We would like to thank our rectorate, the dean's office and the chief physician, for their support for us since the beginning of the pandemic. We were always together in the decisions or the applications carried out; we managed this process together. The support of our management made us very happy, "he said.
Assoc. Prof. Fatmanur Okyaltırık, Head of Chest Diseases Department, and one of the speakers of the symposium, carried out a presentation on “COVID-19 Pneumonia and Genetic Risk Factors".
Assoc. Prof. Bülent Durdu, one of the lecturers of the Department of Infectious Diseases, provided information on the drugs used in the treatment of COVID-19, national and international guidelines and new drugs in his presentation titled “Current Treatment Guidelines in the COVID-19 Infection".
