 Bezmialem Vakif University participated in EAIE International Education Conference and Expo

More than 4800 international education professionals from more than 90 countries attended EAIE's 25th Annual Conference in Istanbul, September 10-13 for an inspiring and energizing week of global knowledge exchange at the bridge between continents. The 25th Annual EAIE Conference in Istanbul has broken all previous EAIE records as the largest conference to date. 

On behalf of Bezmialem Vakif University (BVU), Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Saffet TÜZGEN, Our Advisor to the Rector, Dr. Kerem KINIK, Our Erasmus Institutional Coordinator, Assist. Prof. Dr. Atilla AKDEMIR and Our International Relations Office Coordinator, Pınar ELBASAN attended EAIE for the benefit of internationalization of our university and partnership opportunities.

Higher education professionals who came from all over the world met with each other at the biggest international higher education conference of Europe in order to discover new trends in international higher education, network and exchange knowledge with like-minded professionals, discuss hot topics and develop policies, meet distinguished figures and gain inspiring ideas, innovate, advance the international higher education field and build new partnerships by visiting the conference exhibition.

Within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) there are some 6000 higher education Institutions. In total some 60.000 people in the EHEA are working in internationalization or related fields. The EAIE’s mission is to help professionalize their members and to actively serve all those involved in the internationalisation of higher education. EAIE supports these professionals through their annual conferences, training courses and publications. This year many state and foundation universities attended the conference and represented Turkey. Minister of National Education, Nabi AVCI, President of the Council of Higher Education of Turkey (YOK) Prof. Dr. Gökhan ÇETINSAYA, his Advisory team and Board Members also attended opening ceremony of EAIE and visited Bezmialem Vakif University’s and other Turkish Universities’ stands. Furthermore, Bülent ÖZCAN, President of Center For European Union Education and Youth Programs (President of LLP and Youth Programs Turkish National Agency) and Ilyas ÜLGÜR, Erasmus Program Coordinator, and his team attended to conference. The conference which is held annually in September will be held in Prague between 16-19 September in 2014.


Sustainable collaboration between Bezmialem and ScHARR – University of Sheffield

"Bezmialem-Sheffield Collaboration Seminars" which is organized by the International Relations Office took place in Bezmialem Vakif University on 10th-11th June 2013 at Faculty of Medicine Main Conference Hall and University Research Center.

First day of the program began with the opening speech of Prof. Dr. Saffet TÜZGEN, President of Bezmialem Vakif University. After his speech, Dr. Andrew Chee Lee from ScHARR-University of Sheffield, was invited to give the first session of his seminar on the subject of "Undergraduate Medical Education in the United Kingdom”. The second session of his seminar was on the subject of “Hospital Emergency Preparedness/Planning”.

On the second day of the program, Dr. Paul Bisnell, Director of ScHARR, gave a seminar on the subjects of “The structure of ScHARR (School of Health and Related Research) and “Identifying Areas for Collaboration”. The seminar ended with a lively question and answer session.

At the end of meetings, Officials from Bezmialem and Sheffield decided to build a sustainable collaboration consisting of joint research projects, summer programmes and Ph.D. supervision, student-staff exchange, distance learning opportunities. We are glad to add this University to our list of excellent international partners!


Bezmialem Vakif University participated in the NAFSA International Education Conference and Expo

Over 8000 people who work in the field of higher education have gathered in St Louis, Missouri in May 27-June 1, 2013, USA for NAFSA’s 65th Annual Conference & Expo to meet colleagues from around the world and develop knowledge, skills and strategies. On behalf of Bezmialem Vakif University, Dr. Kerem KINIK (Advisor to the Rector) and Pinar ELBASAN (Coordinator of International Relations Office) attended NAFSA for the benefit of internationalization of our university and partnership opportunities.

  NAFSA Annual Conference brought together more than 8,000 professionals in the field of international education for five packed days of training workshops, educational sessions, networking opportunities, and special events.

This year, 14 Universities including Bezmialem attended NAFSA and represented Turkey. President of the Council of Higher Education of Turkey (YOK) Prof. Dr. Gokhan CETINSAYA, his Advisory team and Board Members from The Council of Higher Education also attended opening ceremony of NAFSA and visited Turkish Universities’ stands.

Main theme of this year's conference was `Effects of International Education and International Education Ideals'. President of the Council of Higher Education of Turkey (YOK), Board Members of the Council, Rectors and Coordinators from Turkish Universities met with University representatives. He and Turkish Universities’ Respresentatives also met BMI (Brazilian leading international student recruitment organization) and held a meeting on the strategies to attract more international students to study in our country and the development of cooperation between Latin America and Turkey.

Being participated at the expo was the excellent chance for networking with like-minded colleagues and exploring potential new partnerships with HEIs around the world. The expo was also a wonderful opportunity to launch new collaborations which will allow both our students and staff a truly international experience. 


Erasmus Information Seminar

"Erasmus Information Seminar" which is organized by the International Relations Office took place for the first time in Bezmialem Vakif University on 29th March 2013. International Relations Office Coordinator Pınar ELBASAN gave information about the activities and bilateral agreements were established by International Relations Office. Following that Prof. Dr. Ethem GÜNEREN, Head of Department, Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, was invited to give the opening speech. After his speech, he gave a presentation focusing on "Bologna", "Erasmus" and "Mobility" issues and pointed out the importance of Internationalization. Assoc.Prof. Dr. Atilla AKDEMIR, Erasmus Instutional Coordinator gave detailed information on bilateral agreements signed by the faculties of our University and gave a presentation on Erasmus Programme. The presentation focused on different topics concerning "What is the Erasmus Programme", "Erasmus' Benefits", "Bezmialem Vakif University and Erasmus", "Erasmus Process-How It Works". Ceren GENÇ, International Relations Advisor to the President of Altın Koza University, gave a speech on topics "The Historical Development of the Bologna Process", "ECTS", and “Work Load", then introduced the Erasmus Programme to our students, academic and administrative staff by giving detailed information on the Erasmus process. Finally Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevinç HATİPOĞLU Erasmus Institutional Coordinator of Istanbul University, was invited to the podium to share their experience throughout the process while giving her presentation on the subject of "Erasmus at Istanbul University". The seminar ended with a lively question and answer session.


Bezmialem Attended EAIE

On behalf of Bezmialem Vakif University (BVU) Atilla AKDEMIR, Erasmus Instutional Coordinator and Pınar ELBASAN, International Relations Office Coordinator attended EAIE. Higher education professionals who came from all over the world met with each other at the biggest international higher education conference of Europe in order to discover new trends in international higher education, network and exchange knowledge with like-minded professionals, discuss hot topics and develop policies, meet distinguished figures and gain inspiring ideas, innovate, advance the international higher education field and build new partnerships by visiting the conference exhibition.

This year within Turkish National Agency, together with Bezmialem Vakif University, 38 public and private universities attended the conference and represented Turkey. Furthermore, Musa CEYLAN, President of Center For European Union Education and Youth Programmes (President of LLP and Youth Programmes Turkish National Agency) and Ilyas ULGUR, Erasmus Program Coordinator, and his team attended to conference. The conference which is held annually in September will be held at Istanbul Congress Center between 10-13 September in 2013.


Orıentatıon Program At Bvu Was Organızed For Internatıonal Students

“Orientation Program” was organized for the students who had enrolled to our university within the international student quota in 2012-2013 academic year by Bezmialem Vakif University (BVU). Orientation is three-days program organized by International Relations Office to introduce international students to each other, the campus and local community.

Orientation programming was exclusively focused on the new international students from Tuesday, September 4 through Thursday, September 6. Students were received detailed information about Orientation during three days. Program started with the presentation of Pınar Elbasan, International Relations Office Coordinator.

Programs continued throughout three days and will include: information sessions about faculties, campus, Turkey, Turkish culture, student visa, health insurance, accommodation, overview of student services and clubs, adaptation process to life at BVU and also Istanbul and a welcome by Prof. Dr. Adnan Yüksel, President and Ahmet Akça, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of BVU. Students were introduced to university’s academic and administrative staff.  With the purpose of introducing Istanbul to our students who came from different countries around the world, tours were organized to historical and touristic places of İstanbul, such as Pierre Loti, Blue Mosque, Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum, Hagia Sophia.


Bezmialem Attended NAFSA

More than 8,500 international education professionals from around the world attended NAFSA's 64th Annual Conference & Expo in Houston, Texas, May 27-June 1, 2012. On behalf of Bezmialem, Bora Erdem (General Secretary) and Pinar Elbasan (Coordinator of International Relations Office) attended NAFSA for the benefit of internationalization of our university.

NAFSA was founded in 1948 as the National Association of Foreign Student Advisers to promote the professional development. With nearly 10,000 members, NAFSA is the world's largest nonprofit professional association dedicated to higher education. NAFSA is an association of individuals worldwide advancing international education and exchange and global workforce development. NAFSA's Annual Conference & Expo attracts more than 8,000 attendees from 150 countries in May each year and is widely recognized as the world's premier meeting, networking, and learning opportunity for international educators.

NAFSA serves international educators and their institutions by establishing principles of good practice, providing training and professional development opportunities, providing networking opportunities, and advocating for international education.

10 Foundation Universities including Bezmialem from Turkey attended NAFSA and represented Turkey. Furthermore, Cemalettin Aydın, Consul General of Turkey in Houston; Mustafa Aydın, Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK)- The Business Council of Education Economy’s President and Fahrettin Altun, Advisor of President of The Council of Higher Education were at the NAFSA 2012 Annual Conference & Expo.​
