Football is the most popular sport major all over the world today, and according to the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA), almost 270 million people are occupied in doing this sport as a professional or amateur. Increasing social interest and increase in financial resources have led football to become more popular and a global phenomenon rather than a game.
Due to the high struggle, athletes pushing their physiological limits increases the frequency of sports injuries and treatments that to accelerate these athletes return to field, are required. Sports injuries and treatments have gained a very rapid development in the past 20-30 years. Protective programs from sports-specific injuries, conservative or surgical treatments applied after injuries are evaluated as a whole in terms of return to sports at the point reached.
Treatment of football related injuries in our country and in the world is developing faster in parallel with the developments in the treatment of sports injuries, increase in social interest and financial resources. Excessive financial resources spent especially for elite football players reveals the necessity of protecting the athlete from injuries and accelerating their treatment and return to the field. In this respect, the necessity of a science major called "Football Medicine" has emerged in the world rather than from sports injuries and sports medicine perspective. Football medicine reveals the necessity of a health personnel equipped with information about other medical disciplines that the athlete needs.
There is no education in this area in our country and the related program will be a first for our country. Our university, which always fulfills its pioneering duties in education, will be a pioneer in this field with its academic staff who are experienced in sports injuries.
