Doymaz Lab

BILSAB Researcher Profile
Mehmet Z. Doymaz, PhD (ABMM)
Overview:
Our laboratory primarily investigates the immunological properties of proteins of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus. This virus gained an endemic status in this country and in many countries spanning from China to Kosova where the third of the world population inhabits. Complex life cycle of the virus involving ticks, wild rodents and domestic animals makes the preventive measures almost futile. Consequently, an immunological intervention to the disease and to its agent seem like the most effective mean to curb the spread of infection in the long haul. We are studying both humoral and cellular immune elements against the viral proteins, primarily nucleocapsid and glycoproteins with the forecast that a better understanding of the immunology and immunopathology of the infection will enable us to design better mechanisms to intervene the infectious process. Our laboratory set up is a typical immunology-molecular biology laboratory equipped with the state of the art means including confocal microscopy, FACS and protein purification instrumentations. The availability of animal facilities and other necessary core facilities makes us to address the immunological questions in
in vivo conditions.
