Our university's "Hello Intern" program for medical students took place with significant participation from our 6th-year students. The program was held on August 21-22 at the Erich Frank Conference Hall, and was attended by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Güven Çetin, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Ramazan Özdemir, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Özlem Su Küçük, along with numerous faculty members and students.
Organized under the coordination of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahadır Taşlıdere and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Doğan Demir, the program provided students with an opportunity to consolidate their knowledge on topics they will encounter in their medical careers and to ask questions to our academics.
In her opening speech, Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu emphasized that the internship acts as a bridge in education, stating, "You are now at the stage of translating your theoretical knowledge into practice, developing your clinical skills, and gaining experience in patient relations. I have no doubt that you will successfully navigate this challenging process."
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Güven Çetin recommended that students take an interest in the paramedical field during their professional careers. He said, "Artificial intelligence is now being used in healthcare. You will also need to work with artificial intelligence. I suggest you closely engage with the finance sector to achieve financial independence in your later years."
Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Ramazan Özdemir, stated, "I believe this program will be extremely beneficial for you, and I thank everyone who contributed to its organization. You will have the opportunity to carry out part of your internship process at our new hospital. Focus on patients during this period and do not hesitate to ask us any questions you may have. Our goal is to train good doctors with clinical experience, not just students who graduate without touching patients. I wish you success in your studies and future endeavors."
During the "Internal Emergencies" session chaired by Prof. Dr. Ramazan Özdemir, Rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu presented on "Consultation Process," Vice Rector Güven Çetin discussed "Blood Transfusion: When?" and Prof. Dr. Meltem Gürsu gave a presentation on "Hyperkalemia-Hypokalemia."
In the second session on "Internal Emergencies," chaired by Prof. Dr. Özlem Su Küçük, Dr. Gonca Dokuz presented on "Delirium," and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammet Batuhan Ayık spoke about "Approach to Acute Psychiatric Patients."
The third session on "Internal Emergencies," chaired by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Bilgin and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kolukısa, featured presentations by Dr. Pınar Özçelik on "Emergency Approach to Acute Stroke," Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mecbure Nalbantoğlu on "Approach to Status Epilepticus in Emergencies," and Prof. Dr. Alpay Alkan on "Cranial Imaging."
In the fourth session, chaired by Prof. Dr. Cumali Karatoprak and Prof. Dr. Teoman Aydın, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hamza Ogun discussed "Pulmonary Embolism," Prof. Dr. Pınar Soysal covered "Delirium in Geriatric Patients," and Prof. Dr. Mahmut Uluganyan presented on "Acute Coronary Syndrome."
On the second day of the program, under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Vedide Tavlı, Prof. Dr. Yaşar Cesur, and Prof. Dr. Ferah Sönmez, the "Pediatric Emergencies" session included presentations by Dr. Burçin Nazlı Karacabey on "Approach to Patients with Seizures in Pediatric Emergencies," Dr. Mebrure Yazıcı on "Asthma and Acute Treatment in Children," Dr. Songül Derin on "Autism: Current Status and Early Signs," and Prof. Dr. Hayrettin Öztürk on "Approach to Common Surgical Problems in Children."
In the "Internal Emergencies-2" session chaired by Prof. Dr. Meltem Gürsu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Celal Elçioğlu discussed "Acute Kidney Failure," Prof. Dr. Başar Cander presented on "Hemorrhagic Shock," Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bülent Durdu talked about "Sepsis," and Prof. Dr. Atilla Arıncı spoke on "Patients, Doctors, and Law."
The "Surgical Emergencies" session, chaired by Prof. Dr. Kazım Karaaslan and Prof. Dr. Başar Cander, included presentations by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Enver Kunduz on "Acute Abdomen," Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Gültekin on "Abdominal Imaging," and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahadır Taşlıdere on "Approach to Trauma Patients."
Finally, in the fourth session chaired by Prof. Dr. Semra Özçelik and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Doğan Demir, Kadir Ataş discussed "Use of Hospital Database Systems."
