On September 9, 2025, the Department of Dermatology at Bezmialem Vakıf University Hospital organized an awareness program within the scope of World Eczema Week, aiming to raise public awareness.
The program, which sought to draw attention to eczema affecting millions worldwide, was held in two sessions. The conference, attended by expert physicians, also featured patients sharing their personal experiences.
First Session: “What is Atopic Dermatitis?"
In the opening session, Prof. Dr. Özlem Su Küçük, Head of the Department of Dermatology, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Didem Dizman conducted an interactive Q&A discussion. Topics included: What is atopic dermatitis? What are the triggering factors? How does it manifest clinically? What are its effects on quality of life? In addition, comprehensive information was provided on skin care and treatment methods in atopic dermatitis.
Second Session: Patient Stories
The second session, moderated by Dr. Melisa Özay, featured the “Patient Stories" segment. Individuals living with eczema shared their experiences, explaining how the disease affected their daily routines and social lives. Through these first-hand accounts, participants gained deeper insight into the challenges of coping with the condition.
Concluding with Q&A
The conference concluded with a Q&A session involving both physicians and patients. The event attracted significant interest from patients, their relatives, field specialists, pharmaceutical industry representatives, and healthcare professionals. The program successfully enhanced awareness of eczema while promoting greater understanding both among patients and within the broader community.
International Recognition of the Department of Dermatology
Continuing its international achievements, the Department of Dermatology at Bezmialem Vakıf University Faculty of Medicine remains recognized among the Atopic Dermatitis Centers of Reference and Excellence (ADCARE), accredited by the Global Allergy and Asthma Excellence Network (GA²LEN).
