Our University organized several programmes on the occasion of Bezmialem Valide Sultan's Memorial Week.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu, assistant rector Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Tuncay, General Secretary Zeynep Gökçen, Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Dilek Sema Arıcı, Health Services Vocational School Principle Prof. Dr. Gökçen Başaranoğlu, our executives, academicians and students participated in the symposium we hosted in order to commemorate Bezmialem Valide Sultan, our founder, the wife of Sultan Mahmud II and the mother of Sultan Abdülmecid. Mürsel Sarı, the 1st Regional Director of Istanbul Foundations, participated on behalf of the General Directorate of Foundations.
On the first day of the programme, which took place at the Bezmialem Foundation University Abdulhamid Han Auditorium Eric Frank Conference Hall, during the Bezmialem Valide Sultan Commemoration event, our Rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu held the opening speech ; Without any distinction among people, the concepts "The most auspicious of people are the ones who are useful" and "Devote to let live" have found life with the foundation culture. I am happy to be together to commemorate our founder Bezmialem Valide Sultan, the mother of Sultan Abdülmecid and the wife of Sultan Mahmud II, one of the most important representatives of this principle."
Bezmialem Valide Sultan's hospitals, mosques, schools, and fountains, which were brought to life just for the sake of Allah, are important examples of the foundation culture. Founded in 1845, Bezm-i Alem Gureba-i Müslimin Hospital is one of the most exceptional examples of the foundation culture left to us by Valide Sultan."
Mürsel Sarı, 1st Regional Director of Istanbul Foundations, stated, "It is very important to be able to devote. Only virtuous people can do that. Valide Sultan is one of these virtuous people." And continued as such ;
"Continuity is important in the foundation system. We witnessed the first example of the foundation through our Prophet. In Medina, he dedicated 7 date gardens. Then we continued to see examples of foundations in Turkish societies. The period referred to as the "paradise of foundations" is the Ottoman period. The years when the Ottoman Empire reigned were the years when the foundation was most intense. The first name that comes to mind when the Ottoman period and the foundation is mentioned is Bezmialem Valide Sultan. On the occasion of the 166th anniversary of her death, we once again commemorate her with gratitude".
On the second day of the commemoration activities, after the recitation of the Holy Quran and prayers by Bezmialem Valide Sultan's tomb at Çemberlitaş, ashura dessert was handed out at the tomb by our Rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu, Assistant rector Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Tuncay, General Secretary Zeynep Gökçen and our executives.
