Professor Charles Wiener of Johns Hopkins University, which is globally one of the most important universities, gave a lecture at Bezmialem Vakıf University on "Paradigm Shifts in Medicine and Medical Training". Our Rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu, Assistant Rector Prof. Dr. İbrahim Tuncay, Assistant Rector Prof. Dr. Ethem Güneren, Medical Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Dilek Sema Arıcı, Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof. Dr. Gülaçtı Topçu, Medical Faculty Assistant Dean Prof. Dr. Alpay Alkan and Medical Faculty Assistant Dean Prof. Dr. Kazım Karaaslan, our directors, academicians, health personnel and many of our students attended the conference which took place at the Deanship Conference Hall.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu who gave an announcement before the conference stated that as an outcome of the ongoing cooperation between our University and John Hopkins University our students have seized an opportunity to receive medical education in America. While underlining the importance of the cooperation by stating its value for determining the career plans of our students, Rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu quotes : "There will be more students joining in with the students who will be traveling to America in 3 years. Our students who have gone to America have performed a few sessions. They have observed that medical training is not only intense here but also intense in America and they have seen how seriously they carry out this task. By acquiring the chance to address academicians directly the students have seized the chance to carry out a few projects for their future and make plans for their careers. As for us educators we confirm and implicate that we are moving forward on the right path in accordance with the results we have achieved."
In medicine Professor Charles Weiner says that there are many changes going on in the world and while medical training progresses in a much more individual approach he also states ; "I believe that the problems in medical training are caused by our current medical education. Individual health and public health are actually concepts that complete and integrate one another and they should not be separated. When this integrity is grasped we will cover more ground on medical training. This intellection is actually universal. It is compatible with both Turkeys and Americas reality. This intellect is what we should really be teaching the medical students. Aside from this the developments in technology will help us to understand the human body and its systems much better."
