The first medical student accepted to the European Organization for Nuclear Research, CERN, Ahmet Serdar Mutluer is continuing his studies successfully at Switzerland. Successfully continuing his studies at Hadron Treatment Center, the cancer treatment research center of CERN, Ahmet Serdar Mutluer was invited to European Network Light Ion Therapy (ENLIGHT), by the founding president of this organization.
The first medical student at this project consisting of professors and scientists, Mutluer also became the first Turkish student to be accepted to CERN. Providing important observations on the matter, our student said, ‘My aim here is to take the initiative in establishing a middle-range collider with a proton therapy center in Turkey and to turn our country into a science center of Middle East related with this project at CERN.
Speaking about another project to take place in September, Mutluer said, ‘I was invited by the founding president to a summit to which many experts on particle physics, computers, life sciences, etc. will participate in the Netherlands between September 15 and 17. I’m planning on attending this summit if the necessary arrangements are made.’
Ahmet Serdar Mutluer, a student of our Faculty of Medicine also described our University at CERN and said, ‘I had the chance to meet with the team that produces artificial neurons at IBM’s general center. I explained the Watson project our University had made a breakthrough with. I introduced our University as the only and unrivalled university that is open and strives for development in science with a multi-disciplinary perspective. They were very pleased and invited me to their general headquarters in Zurich to introduce their laboratories and works.’
