First Athletes’ Health Center was opened at Bezmialem Vakif University’s Eyüp Sultan Campus. The center will provide training on prevention, diagnosis, treatment and athletic performance management to athletes.
Turkish Football Federation’s (TFF) Assistant Director Prof. Dr. Mete Düren, Basketball National Team’s Health Board Member Tahsin Beyzadeoğlu, Kağıthane District Governor Hasan Göç, Eyüp Mayır Remzi Aydın, Turkcell’s General Manager Kaan Terzioğlu, Foundations 1st Regional Director Mürsel Sarı, Foundations Assistant Regional Director Ekrem Arslan, Acıbadem Sports Center Director Prof. Dr. Ömer Taşer, Turkey Sports Injuries Arthroscopy and Knee Surgergy (TUSYAD) Director Prof. Dr. Mehmet Aşık, our University’s Chairman of Board of Trustees Ahmet Akça, our Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu and General Secretary Zeynep Gökçen and many press members and guests attended the opening.
Giving the opening speech at the program TFF’s Assistant Director Prof. Dr. Mete Düren highlighted the importance of Athletes’ Health Centers in directing youngsters towards sport and added, ‘Within the last few years, the investments in sports in our country, the increase in number of modern stadium and sports halls also emphasized the importance of athletes’ health. The number of athletes’ centers not only for rehabilitation and treatment of injured athletes’ health but also with injury risk analysis and motivating children to be involved in sports in increasing day by day. Therefore, I would like to congratulate Bezmialem Vakif University’s Athletes’ Health Center in this respect and wish them success.’
Underlining the importance of such centers especially for physical and mental support to athletes, Acıbadem Sports Centers Director Prof. Dr. Ömer Taşer said, ‘All areas in sports are important. One of the most important issues in our country is losing generations who are at a suitable age for starting sports. I hope these types of centers will provide physical and mental support to earning young athletes to sport.’
Ömer Taşer, Turkey Sports Injuries Arthroscopy and Knee Surgery (TUSYAD) Director Prof. Dr. Mehmet Aşık noted that such centers assume important responsibilities and said, ‘I would like to congratulate everyone who provided support in opening such a center. It’s a really impressive center. I wish success to Athletes’ Health Center of Bezmialem Vakif University. Such centers assume great responsibilities alongside athletes’ health, such as education. We expect this mission to be continued at this center as TUSYAD.’
Stating that they are pleased for such a center to be opened at Eyüp district, Eyüp Mayor Remzi Aydın said, ‘In order to perform sports in a good and correct method, athletes’ health is an important concept. As an athlete myself, I am aware of this a swell. It is of great importance for such a center to be opened at Bezmialem Vakif University. It made us extremely happy for such a center to be opened at our center.’
Providing information on Athletes’ Health Center, our Assistant Chancellor and Head of Athletes'’ Health Center, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Tuncay, ‘Before sports injuries used be treated abroad. But today, thanks to the developments in our country, we can now do the treatments here. We are the second but also the first public center in our country in this field with our professional staff. Our Athletes’ Health Center will welcome all amateur and professional sportsmen. Our purpose here is to determine health levels of sportsmen before they get engaged in sports and to provide guidance to them professionally. Thus, prevent their injuries.’
Thanking everyone who attended the opening of the center, our Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu said ‘Sports is an element that should be included in every stage of our lives. Our Athletes’ Health Center will support athletes in all kinds of injuries and wounds. Athletes’ Health Center established for the first time within our Sports Medicine Department will serve all sportsmen on 1,100 square meters. As BVU we are waiting everyone who have set their heart on health.’
