‘3rd EMDR Symposium’ hosted by Bezmialem Vakif University was organized with the cooperation of EMDR Association and Turkish Psychiatric Association. Organized on December 3 and 4, 2016 at the Conference Hall of our Deanship, leading trauma researchers and therapists of our country got together to discuss what can and has been done for both personal and social traumas. At the event, the importance of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as a fast and effective treatment used especially in disaster zones, after terror attacks and treatment of refugees. The intervention with EMDR was discussed especially for Soma Disaster and EMDR HAP studies were discussed individually for Ankara Explosion and Airport Explosion. During the event, the benefits of EMDR in other psychiatric issues along with overcoming hard traumas were also highlighted. It was also noted that EMDR can be used at treatment of patient groups such as pregnant, when use of medication is hard.
In his opening speech our Head of Mental Health and Diseases Department, Prof. Dr. İsmet Kırpınar gave information on the esteemed past and today of our University. EMDR Symposium Organization Committee's Chairman Associate Prof. Dr. Önder Kavakcı gave a speech on the importance of EMDR. Soma District Governor, Ahmet Altındaş also attended the event as a speaker and issues such as Intervention to Disaster with EMDR; Example Field Study - Soma, Refugee Problem in Turkey; Meeting of Receivers and Providers of Service in Mass Traumas, Smart Medicine Use in Psychiatry, Ego Situations and EMDR, Children and Trauma, Intervention to Ankara Explosion, EMDR in Pregnancy and Post-Pregnancy Psychiatric Situation, and Acceptance and Determination Therapy. An opening speech, workshops, seminars, 11 panels and 2 verbal notifications were carried out during the event that lasted for two days.
