In order to draw attention to the 8th of March International Womans Day, the "Admission to Health Occupations of the Women in Turkey and Firsts" event took place at Bezmialem Vakıf University. Our rector Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu, Assistant rector Ethem Güneren, General Secretary Zeynep Gökçen, Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof. Dr. Gülaçtı Topçu, Assistant General Secretary Hatice Kösretaş, our executives, academicians and health personnel joined the event which took place at the Deanship Confernece Hall. . Our rector Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu, who carried out the opening speech of the event ; "Today we see that the number of women professors and academicians in Turkey is higher than Europes average. This is a huge success, an indicator of the determination, effort and sacrifice that the woman academicians have put into their studies inspite of their domestic priorities. But we are aware that women are not very active in administrative assignments. I can say with great honor that Bezmialem creates a difference in this sense. Active and competent women academicians and administrators take place at Bezmialem. This situation gives furthermore honor as the University Rector."
Drawing attention to the fact that 174 years ago Bezm-i Alem Valide Sultan opened the Bezm-i Alem Gureba-i Müslimin Hospital and put into practice many other good charitity deeds in order to help the poor for the sake of Allah, our rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu stated ; "Here we once again witness the sensitivity of a woman. We can see how Bezm-i Alem Valide Sultan has touched upon societies problems, helped the poor, searched for their troubles relief, cared for scientific studies and shed light upon the society at that time. Hereby we commemorate Bezm-i Alem Valide Sultan with respect and mercy. We are here as women who follow in the path of Bezm-i Alem Valide Sultan and we are working to continue the charitible foundation and charity culture that she commended , and we also carry the honor and joy this brings us."
Prof. Dr. Nuran Yıldırım who gave a speech at the event spoke of the historical process of how the women entered the health field. Prof. Dr. Nuran Yıldırım, who drew attention to the womens position in the health service worldwide and in the Ottoman society, referred to the importance of the importance of Bezm-i Alem Gureba-i Müslimin Hospital where the foundations of modern science was layed in the Ottoman society. Prof. Dr. Nuran Yıldırım lectured on what our first health institutes, first woman physicians, first dentists, veterinarians, pharmacists, nurses and midwives lived through.
