Bezmialem Vakıf University Phytotherapy Training Reasearch and Application Center which is Turkeys first T.C Health Ministry approved phytotherapy center handed out the "Phytotherapy Certified Training Programme" certificates to 30 doctors who successfully completed the programme. Our rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu, Assistant rector Prof. Dr. İbrahim Tuncay, Rector consultant Prof. Dr. Erdal Tekarslan, General Secretary Zeynep Gökçen, Medical Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Dilek Sema Arıcı, Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof. Dr. Gülaçtı Topçu, Health Research and application center Medical Director Doç. Dr. Fadlullah Aksoy, Medical Faculty Assistant Dean Prof. Dr. Alpay Alkan, Phytotherapy Research and Application Center Director Prof. Dr. Murat Kartal, our executives, academicians, trainees and health personnel attended the event which was held at the Deanship Conference Hall.
Rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu, who made the opening speech , "Bezmialem Vakıf University aims to raise scientists who research and apply phytotherapy under the light of modern science and at the same time aims to remove Turkeys foreign dependency in medicine, cosmetics and food industries raw materials." Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu indicates that it is their number one priority to make sure the incorrect usage of herbal products minimizes to the lowest level and continues, "Incorrect and insensible usage of herbal products can put ones life in danger. In this sense an important role falls to your hands. I see all this training and certificates that you achieve for these purposes as an important step."
Stating that Turkey owns a rich vegetation, Rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu , "From time to time the great mistake of denying phytotherapy's importance has been made. As Bezmialem Vakıf University we aim to break this view in the scientific community and increase the herbal products contributions to treatment within the scope of scientific studies. For this reason our Phytotherapy Center provides expert support in the standardizing, quality control and registration of the herbal products that our country is in ample need of. You as individual health professionals who provide this support must not have any doubt that you will contribute greatly to this society and science. Thirty of our doctors have earned the certificate from this course which begins with the license that the Ministry of Health hands out. I congratulate every single one of them and wish them success in their careers."
Our faculty of pharmacy dean Prof. Dr. Gülaçtı Topçu who defined phytotherapy at the event reminded of the fact that phytotherapy had not been practiced in Turkey for years and added , " The biggest reason for this was that phytotherapy was not accepted and was set back for years in Turkey. Whereas besides Turkey we could see that phytotherapy was being practice for many years in USA, Canada, Germany, Japan, China and India." Also explaining the establishment process of the BVU Phytotherapy Training Reasearch and Application Center , Prof. Dr. Gülaçtı Topçu spoke as , "Both as Protective Health services and in order to meet the requirements of our patients we can reach our deserved place in both Turkeys and the worldwide market , through evaluating our countries natural richness ,by producing functional foods, food supplements, herbal cosmetics and herbal medicine that our doctors can recommend and prescribe with the cooperations of doctors, pharmacists, and related health professionals , industry, university and public state institutions." Prof. Dr. Gülaçtı Topçu , thanking our executives and academicians, wished the doctors who received their certificates success in their careers.
At the vote of thanks which the Bezmialem Vakıf University Phytotherapy Training Reasearch and Application Center Director Prof. Dr. Murat Kartal gave, he thanked our rector and executives and wished success to the doctors who received their certificates.
Prof. Dr. Adem Akçakaya of our General Surgery Department , who joined the programme and earned the "Phytotherapy Certified Training Programme" certificate and by referring to the importance of herbal treatment field merging with todays modern medicine stated , "Unfortunately I think that we are falling quite behind in this subject. Western countries have started this business much earlier than us by exploiting Turkey's endemic vegetation and the traditional treatments that we use." Prof. Dr. Adem Akçakaya thanked all of the executives and academicians who have contributed throughout the course of the training.
