Hosted by Bezmialem Vakıf University, executives of the Health Sciences Institutes of the Universities of Turkey came together and handled matters regarding problems the institutes face, current and ethic approaches and solution suggestions. The event which took place at the deanship conference hall began with a stand in silence for our dear martyrs and the national anthem in the follow up.
YÖK vice president Prof. Dr. M. İ. Safa Kapıcıoğlu, our rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu, assistant rector Prof. Dr. İbrahim Tuncay, assistant rector Prof. Dr. Ethem Güneren, Medical faculty dean Prof. Dr. Dilek Sema Arıcı, Faculty of Pharmacy dean Prof. Dr. Gülaçtı Topçu, General Secretary assistant Hatice Kösretaş, Health sciences institute manager Prof. Dr. Semra Özçelik, institute manager assistant Doç. Dr. Binnur Temel, university health sciences institute managers, executives, academicians and health personnel joined the event.
YÖK vice president Prof. Dr. M. İ. Safa Kapıcıoğlu, who began his speech by first expressing his thanks to Bezmialem Vakıf University for inviting him to the "Health Sciences Institutes of the Universities of Turkey" meeting , continued by explaining the education system by exemplifying the bamboo tree : "The bamboo tree is one of the strongest structural trees. 5 years after being planted it takes root, developes and strengthens. Only after its 5th year does it sprout and and later in 6 weeks it reaches 27 meters. Why did I tell you this? The bamboo tree evokes something in me ; education actually resembles the bamboo tree. You need to set up such a system that after a certain level of growth , development must be unstoppable and much more visible and continue in a much faster way. To reach this acceleration we need to show the utmost value to the seeds we plant, the water and the fertilizer we give so that we can achieve the desired quality output."
Stating that a world where humans are killed is not a good world, YÖK vice president Prof. Dr. M. İ. Safa Kapıcıoğlu ended his speech by saying, "That is why we need people who struggle for goodness. I believe that those like you who do good will win."
Bezmialem Vakıf University Rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu who made the opening speech at the event , "Today we experience the pride of hosting you at Bezmialem Vakıf University. Institutes are where scientific studies are carried out, the future scientists and academicians are raised , so this way they are science homes that contribute to countries increasing their international recognition. Thats why more value and support has to be given to institutes."
Claiming that Bezmialem Vakıf University aims to raise the scientists and academicians of the future, Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu, " Bezmialem Valide Sultan actualized the Bezmialem Vakıf Gureba-i Müslimin Hospital 174 years ago. She not only got charity works done but also gave science a great amount of care. The foundations of modern science at the Bezmialem Vakıf Gureba-i Müslimin Hospital were laid as the results of this foresight and vision. Bezmialems present day followers of this great mission, have taken an important step in raising the futures health soldiers and scientists by transforming Bezm-i Alem Gureba-i Müslimin Hospital into Bezmialem Vakıf University in 2010."
Bezmialem Vakıf University Health Sciences Institute Manager Prof. Dr. Semra Özçelik gave information about the institutes within Bezmialem Vakıf University , stating , "At our university we have the Health Sciences Institute, Forensic Medicine Institute, Gastroenterology Institute, Life sciences and Biotechnology Institute. At our Health Sciences Institute we focus on scientific studies and we work with great effort to raise the scientists of the future. At our institute we have the doctorate and post graduate programmes which belong to the intitute departments that are formed by the medicine, dentistry, pharmaceutics and health sciences faculties members. We also have joint doctorate programmes that have been formed together with other univerisites."
The first day of the event proceeded with The İzmir Economy University Health Sciences Institute Manager Prof. Dr. Gül Güner Akdoğan's "A Glance at the 1st Europe Doctorate Education and ORPHEUS" and "Interdisciplinary, Multidisciplinary Doctorate Programmes". Following up the panel titled "Current Matters İn Higher Education" was carried with the moderators Prof. Dr. Neyhan Ergene and Prof. Dr. Ayşen Bayram. At the panel, University of Selçuk Health Sciences Institute Manager Prof. Dr. Ender Erdoğan "The place of Health Sciences Institutes in higher education and A glimpse at postgraduate education", University of KTO Karatay Health Sciences Institute Manager Prof. Dr. Neyhan Ergene " New Criteria and Suggestions for Opening Higher education programmes", Gazi University Health Sciences Institute Manager Prof. Dr. Mustafa Aslan "Higher education and doctorate programmes in the pharmacy department" ,University of Kocaeli Health Sciences Institute Assistant Manager Prof. Dr. Sema Aşkın Keçeli "evaluating higher education with survey results : The university of Kocaeli experience." took place with their presentations.
After the panel Prof. Dr. Nuran Yıldırım of the BVU Medical History and Ethic Department carried out their "Yüksek Öğretim Kurulu (YÖK) and Scientific Research/Plagiarism" titled presentation.
After the presentation, the panel titled "Current Matters in Higher Education" was held under the moderatorship of Prof. Dr. Mine Doluca Dereli and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yıldırım. At the panel Fırat University Health Sciences Institute Manager Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kaplan "Changed Practices of the New regulations in higher education", İstanbul Medipol University Health Sciences Institute Manager Prof. Dr. Nesrin Emekli "Health Sciences Institutes of Istanbuls Vakıf Universities ", Gelişim University Health Sciences Institute Manager Prof. Dr. Osman Çakmak "Applicaton Realities in Higher education in our country and Solution proposals for quality Increase" were discussed.
On the second day of the event Bezmialem Vakıf University Medical History and Ethics department Prof. Dr. Nuran Yıldırım began with their presentation, "Science Ethics and Freedom of Research". Following, the presentations listed were discussed : Turkey Health Institutes General Secretary and Yeditepe University Health Sciences Institute Manager Prof. Dr. Bayram Yılmaz with "Turkey Health Institutes Chairmanship", Bezmialem Vakıf University Phytotherapy Center Manager Prof. Dr. Gülaçtı Topçu "BVU Phytotherapy Center", Yrd. Doç. Dr. Serdar Uysal Bezmialem Vakıf University of the Biophysics Department with "BVU Life Sciences and Biotechnology Institutes ".
The event ended with the attendees receiving thank you plaquets while the quests were given a Pierre Loti tour in order to present the natural beauties and history of Istanbul.
