Nurse Care Week event was held at the deanship conference hall at our university. The event started off with our National Anthem and a moment of silence for our martyrs. Assistant rector Prof. Dr. Ethem Güneren, General Secretary Zeynep Gökçen, Health Sciences Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Ahmet Belce, Hospital Medical Director Doç. Dr. Fadlullah Aksoy, Medical Faculty Dean Assistant Prof. Dr. Alpay Alkan, Health Sciences Faculty Head of Nursing Faculty Department Prof. Dr. Türkinaz Aştı, Nursing Services Chief Uzm. Hem. Merve Meşedüzü, health personnel and our students attended the event.
Assistant rector Prof. Dr. Ethem Güneren who carried out the opening speech , "Nursing is a sacred and honorable career filled with human love, carried out with compassion and patience. Ever since its establishment in 2010 and it previous hospital adventure Bezmialem Vakıf University is an important establishment that has been carrying out its Works with Bezmialem Valide Sultan's principles for 172 years. We cannot make it up to the nurses that have been a part of the ongoing trust and solidarity culture that Bezmialem Valide Sultan has left us. Also, we care greatly about making sure that the nurses at the Bezmialem Vakıf University Health Sciences Faculty receive a high quality education in order to become participant, analyst, innovator and empathy developing nurse models."
Referring to the importance of nursing, General Secretary Zeynep Gökçen states, "Nursing, which is a sacred profession, harbors patience, skill and tolernce in its foundations. Our nurses, which set up one on one relationships with people, especially play a great role in the positive orientation of the treatment process. With the 172 year old deep rooted tradition that we own we have always tried to be an establishment that grasped the importance of nursing. Knowing that they had a necessity for trained nurses during the Republic era , Bezmiâlem Vakıf Gureba-i Müslimin Hospital, which was one of the most modern hospitals during its establishment time, has supported the establishment of nursing schools. This establishment which transformed into Bezmialem Vakıf University in 2010 continues today to cover the requirements of the health field by raising equipped nurses. General Secretary Zeynep Gökçen celebrated all the nurses Nurses Day and wished success.
Beginning his speech with his gratitude towards our executives due to their contributions ,Health Sciences Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Ahmet Belce, "I commemorate our founder, Head of Nursing Department Doç. Dr. Nesrin Reis with deep mercy. She had such important dreams. Today , with the help of our executives, we believe we have accomplished many of her dreams." By exemplifying Hilal-i Ahmer Societies nurse Safiye Hüseyin Elbi in his speech Prof. Dr. Ahmet Belce, ended his speech by saying "She really is someone we should look up to. As a Pasha daughter living in England, Safiye Hüseyin Elbi is fond of a luxurious life. But when the Balkan War begins she goes to the warzone by deserting her modern and luxurious life by stating that she must serve her country. She has provided great services during World War One and The Çanakkale War (Gallipoli). I commemorate her with mercy. I call out to our youths ; look up to your teachers, be the Lady Safiye's and teacher Sevgi's and teacher Ömer's of the future."
Hospital Medical Director Doç. Dr. Fadlullah Aksoy who spoke at the event, stated, "Our very dear nurses, you unrelentingly carry out your profession with devotion and mission awareness to people. You run to peoples aid with compassion and patience, and you give go through great labor in order to help people and get their blessings. Health services continue on for almost two centuries at the "Bezm-i Alem Gureba-i Müslimin Hospital" which was established 172 years ago to help the poor. Our hospital transformed into Bezmialem Vakıf University in 2010 thus expanding its range. It is our biggest wish to carry our continuosly growing hospital to the farthest level possible today and to administer this mission into the future generations so that it can serve humanity and live on for centuries more."
Health Sciences Faculty Head of Nursing Faculty Department Prof. Dr. Türkinaz Aştı, "For sustainable progress so much workload falls into our nurses hands that it is of great importance that they really develope themselves in order to fulfil their tasks to the full extent. Our nurses need to be informed, equipped, and at the same time be humane, to love people, to embrace the philosophy of nursing, own good manual skills, be experienced and to have strong intuition. It is very important for us to provide strong graduate nurses if we want to there to be strong nurses. In this regard I'd like to thank our rectorate and dean teachers. Every opportunity is being prsented to us in order for our nurses to receive a good education and develope themselves." Prof. Dr. Türkinaz Aştı thanked everyone who contributed to organizing the event.
Nursing Services Chief Uzm. Hem. Merve Meşedüzü, "As Bezmialem nurses I would like to express my gratitude on behalf of myself and my team for having the honor of carrying out this sacred profession at this hospital which was handed down to us from Bezmialem Valide Sultan. Nurse care is a difficult profession which harbors tough working conditions, devotion, patience, tolerance and self-sacrifice. It is born from the necessities of humanitys nature and is closely interested in human life. Nursing; a profession that knows teamwork, manual work, fast and efficient labor, with love, respect in the foundation."
Specialist Veteran Nurse Emel Berkay, who contributed her efforts in the contribution of the "restructuring of nursing" and turning it into a useful profession, made a speech at the event, explaining the difficulties she went through.
United Nations Development Programme Istanbul Private Sector Programme supervisor Hasan Doğan, spoke as such in his "Sustainable Development Targets and The 2030 Agenda" titled speech , "Sustainable Development basically targets peoples welfare. But in order to reach this welfare we need to refrain from harming the resources. But our world is ill, not healthy and we need to fight this and identify , diagnose and treat it."
Under the Chairmanship of The Turkish Nurse Association Istanbul Branch Board of Director Member Prof. Dr. Sevgi Oktay the "Sustainable Development Targets and the Role of Health Personnel : Healthy Living From Birth to Death" title panel was held. In scope of the panel Istanbul Medical Faculty Public Health Department member Prof. Dr. Nuray Yolsal Özgülnar joined with their presentation "Sustainable Development Targets and the Role and leadership of the Health Personnel, Our universities Health Sciences Faculty Nursing Department lecturer Yrd. Doç. Dr. Nesrin İlhan joined with their presentation "Sustaining Healthy Life in Adolescences", and our universities Neorology Department lecturer Doç. Dr. Gülsen Babacan Yıldız joined with their presentation "Sustaining Healthy Life in the Elderly".
The event ended with the attendees receiving their certificates of appreciation and cake cutting ceremony. After which a dinner organization took place , which our executives and health personnel joined.
