On March 14, our university organized an event due to Doctors Day.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu, Assistant rectors Prof. Dr. İbrahim Tuncay and Prof. Dr. Orhan Özturan, Rector Consultant Prof. Dr. Erdal Tekarslan, General Secretary Zeynep Gökçen, Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Dilek Sema Arıcı, Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Dr. Alper Alkan, Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof. Dr. Gülaçtı Topçu, Hospital Medical Director Prof. Dr. Fadlullah Aksoy, our executives, academicians and students attended the event.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu, who carried out the opening speech by mentioning how divine the duties of the health personnel and doctors' are, continued as;
"You all know very well that human beings need medical and health personnel for different reasons during their life from birth till death. Health is the most precious and most valuable treasure in human life. Medical Science is a profession that aims to save human lives and to relieve their suffering. In its essence and basis lays the need to ensure that people are kept alive. Thats why throughout history, it has been seen as a profession of sacrifice by communities, and has always been beared with sanctity. And wherever there is pain, a war, a catastrophe, we see our physicians and our health personnel struggling at the expense of their lives."
Our rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu stated; "We are the health workers who are working day and night to protect health, which is the most precious treasure of people. We are living in the pride and happiness of following Bezmialem Valide Sultan as the present representatives of the Bezmialem tradition which states 'Health First'. We must not forget to continue the foundation culture of the Bezmialem Valide Sultan while performing this supreme duty and to 'Do for Allah's sake and not give it for granted' while providing health care service."
Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Dilek Sema Arıcı stated; "The first celebration actually took place in Istanbul, during the occupation on March 14, 1919. Here medical school students were gathered to protest the occupation, under the leadership of Medical School 3rd grade student Hikmet Boran and the famous doctors of their era gave them their support. Therefore, from that day onwards, doctros day began to be celebrated as a defense operation. Therefore we planned a meeting to announce the value and significance of the day to all the members of our university especially those that have risen in the academic sense, and to those who have received awards."
Our Dean spoke as; "As a university, we make many innovations in every department. All of our teachers have reached upper levels. We are in the first tens in some fields. Our goal is to train good doctors and academics. At the same time to ensure Turkey is represented well in the international academic platform. For this reason all of our teachers are working with all of their might.. I thank all of them."
Hospital Medical Director Prof. Dr. Fadlullah Aksoy spoke as such ; "I am delighted to celebrate the 14th of March Doctors Day at Bezmialem Vakıf University, which is just as deep rooted as the day itself. As you all know, "Bezm-i Alem Gureba-i Muslimin Hospital", which benefitted from the benevolence of Bezmialem Valide Sultan in 1845, has been a great salve for health, which was one of the greatest problems of the Ottoman Empire. Bezmiâlem Vakıf University, which is one of Turkeys leading universities in the health field, sprung to life in 2010 as a foundation (vakıf) university with a training staff consisting of top scientists and once again undertook its vision of the 1845 establishment era. Bezmialem Vakıf University Faculty of Medicine Hospital has a long history and we are lucky to have healthcare service with its qualified academic staff and the most advanced technological facilities. I celebrate March 14th Doctors Day and salute all of my colleagues, who let this pride live within one another with respect and love, who are not afraid to extend the hand of mercy and compassion and keep the service of humanity above everything. "
The event ended after the presentation of congratulatory certificates to the academicians and students who have shown scientific success with their studies.
