Ahmet Serdar Mutluer, one of the students of our university's Faculty of Medicine, was the first medical faculty student to be accepted to the European Nuclear Research Center (CERN).
Ahmet Serdar Mutluer, who was accepted into the European Nuclear Research Center, which has made significant contributions to science with its studies in the field of high energy physics since 1954, had the opportunity to carry out his work in a special office assigned to him in the Department of Advanced Ideas Development.
Ahmet Serdar Mutluer, who has returned from a number of competitions, carried out his internship in the Neuroscience field at CERN. Our student, who stated that he was proud to represent Turkey on behalf of our country and himself, said that he has greatly supported Bezmialem Foundation University's scientific studies and the process of applying to CERN.
Mutluer, who has implied his keen interest in scientific studies since he was a child, stated ; "Today, I would like to thank Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu, the Rector of Bezmialem Foundation University and my lecturers, who supported me in line with my goals."
Mutluer, "In fact, more technical studies are carried out at CERN. Particle physics and high-energy physics are being studied. One may ask what Medical Students are doing at CERN.
CERN is not just a center focused on a particular subject.
There are studies on renewable energy, medical imaging techniques, cancer treatment methods, proton treatments, particle physics.
Among my next goals, I would like to be involved in the research programs in the following summer years and take part in a joint project with CERN".
Ahmet Serdar Mutluer, our Faculty of Medicine student, stated that his first week at CERN was very intense and sleepless with scientific studies. Mutluer, expressing his pleasure in the realization of his dreams since his childhood, said that it was an important privilege for him to find a chance to work with Prof. Renaud Blaise Jolivet, Director of Neuroscience at CERN.
Ahmet Serdar Mutluer stated that it was a great pleasure to have a research opportunity at CERN. He continued: "It was a truly unique opportunity for me. A dreamy environment. Imagine a huge city where everyone is actively producing science. Imagine a city where people talk about their work with joy and excitement at all times, and the physical environment around you is designed specifically to increase your productivity and performance.
As of the first week, I completed the mathematical and computer modeling of the nerve cell signaling and integration mechanism ; 'integrate and fire neuron model'.
In the following days, I created a computer modeling on the mathematical equation Hodgkin and Huxley which best modeled the mechanism of signal transduction in nerve cells. Finally, I will create a computer modeling that demonstrates the signal transmission and mechanism between nerve cells. My work will be a big step in the world in terms of communication between nerve cells, signal transmission, and understanding of the mechanism of the brain's work."
Ahmet Serdar Mutluer, who received compliments from the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications and the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology for his admission to CERN, expressed his gratitude to Bezmialem Vakıf Üniversitesi who opened doors for him.
