As part of the Erasmus program, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu, visited Varna Medical University for a teaching mobility, where she engaged in significant discussions and collaborations. During her visit, she toured the University Hospital “St. Marina" Varna and met with the Executive Director, Prof. Dr. Silva Andonova, to learn about the hospital's size and the high-tech healthcare services it provides. The hospital's capability to serve 350,000 citizens with healthcare services was impressive.
During her hospital visit, Kazancıoğlu conducted inspections in the departments of Cardiology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, and the Nephrology department, including dialysis units. She held important discussions regarding potential collaborations with Rheumatologist Assoc. Prof. Svetoslav Dimitrov and other academics. Following the hospital visit, Kazancıoğlu met with Varna Medical University Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Raykov to discuss friendship and collaboration potentials.
The organization of the visit was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Mario Milkov, who previously hosted us at our university and accompanied Rector Kazancıoğlu throughout all meetings. On February 4, Kazancıoğlu shared her knowledge by delivering a seminar titled “New KDIGO Guideline on Chronic Kidney Disease Management: What is New?" to the university's undergraduate and graduate students and academics.
One of the most significant moments of the visit was the signing of an Erasmus cooperation agreement between the two institutions. In discussions with the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Svetlana Fotkova Georgieva, an agreement was reached regarding student and academic staff exchange and the implementation of joint research projects. Additionally, it was decided to collaborate with the Health Management department.
In meetings with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aneta Dokova, Director of the International Relations Office, a comprehensive plan was developed to enhance cooperation between the two institutions in every aspect.
Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu's visit to Varna Medical University has been a significant step in strengthening academic collaboration between the two institutions and sharing innovations in the field of health. Upcoming projects and partnerships offer important opportunities to enhance the international impact of both universities.
