Attention! If you enter Turkey with a tourist visa your application for residence permit to the Turkish Security Forces will not be accepted. Therefore, please apply to the Turkish Embassy in your country for a student visa and enter Turkey with that visa rather than a tourist visa.
All international students in Turkey regardless of their status, must register and obtain a residence permit (ikamet tezkeresi) from Directorate of Security/Bureau of Residence Registration (İstanbul Emniyet Müdürlüğü/Yabancılar Şubesi) within 1 month of entering Turkey.

VERY IMPORTANT: Please note that, as the foreigners department at police gets too many applications they are giving appointments to very late dates. This is why we strongly remind you to get your online appointment as quick as possible. The earlier the better! Please secure your appointment date before you arrive in İstanbul. We recommend you to get an appointment date after the start of your courses as your student certificates (which is needed for residence permit application) will be ready in that week.

The address of the Directorate of Security for Istanbul is Vatan Caddesi, in the neighbourhood of Fatih. Office hours are 8:30 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 17:30, Monday through Friday except holidays.

Yabancılar Şube Müdürlüğü (VATAN). (This is the main police station you'll go for the application.)
- After getting the online appointment, you have to print the appointment document With Colored Printer so your Computer Must be Connected to a Colored Printer.
