Physiotherapy education in Turkey was initiated by Prof. Dr. İhsan Doğramacı at Hacettepe University, Ankara in 1961. The profession itself has a much older history; it gained special importance after World War II and its development goes on unabated to current practice. The Turkish Association of Physiotherapists, founded in 1969, represents all members of the profession in Turkey and is a member of the World Confederation of Physical Therapy.
