The arts and crafts movements that emerged in response to the industrialization revolution in the early 19th and early 20th centuries also affected the development of ergotherapy. In the countries leading this field, ergotherapy is regarded as a health care profession in the 1920s. Between 1900 and 1930, the leaders of the profession identified the fields of application of ergotherapy and developed supporting theories. The need for rehabilitation of health problems emerging as a result of the World War I and II has opened the way for professional development and has improved the professional perspective. In the universal development of ergotherapy there are three basic periods in which the principles of practice of the profession are reshaped: periods of "work," "mechanistic" and "modern" paradigms. During the leading paradigm called "Moral Therapy", important studies have been carried out in the field of mental health and this area is still one of the main fields of ergotherapy.Ergotherapy started at the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation of Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, which started to receive students in 1986 for the first attempts at undergraduate education. Students who have a high GPA in the field of occupational and occupational therapies from the beginning of the 3rd year after taking the first 2 years of common courses during the 4 year undergraduate education will be provided with additional courses they take with the courses they have taken in the physiotherapy profession, occupational therapist "and" occupational therapist "in the name of" occupational therapist "and" occupational therapist "were used for the first time in the graduation documents. This practice in this period has been applied as a kind of double major application in the name of now and it has only lasted 5 years. About 25 ergotherapists graduated in this process. However, due to the lack of professional legislation, problems related to the use of title were experienced. After the end of this 5 year period, about 18 years later, ergotherapy undergraduate education resumed in our country.
