The service delivery that started in 1845 as Bezmialem Vakıf Gureba-i Müslimin Hospital has expanded to include education and training activities under the roof of a university today. The Institute of Health Sciences has taken its place in the initial organizational structure of Bezmialem Vakıf University, which was established in 2010, and started to accept its first students in the 2012-2013 Academic Year Fall Semester. The Institute of Health Sciences includes disciplinary and interdisciplinary graduate programs in the fields of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Health Sciences, Biotechnology, Pharmacognosy and Natural Products Chemistry, Neurosciences, Disaster Medicine, and Disaster Management.

 

The Institute of Health Sciences shares the common values and management philosophy of all academic and administrative structures of Bezmialem Vakıf University. At the root of these values lie the ideals of Bezmialem Valide Sultan and the management principles based on a real foundation culture.

 

The universal mission of the Institute is to educate scientists in health-related disciplines, who question, investigate and try to produce solutions to problems by taking scientific thinking method as a reference point.

 

The Institute carries out activities within the framework of a certain quality policy. The objectives of this policy are presented below:

 

  • To provide a safe, healthy and peaceful working environment.

 

  • To create a dynamic structure to ensure the development of education and training, research and development, international cooperation and social contribution processes.

 

  • To increase the outputs such as high impact value articles, patents, utility models and copyrights produced from graduate theses.

 

  • To carry out studies to improve the international competitiveness and recognition of the institution and the country.

 

  • To develop and disseminate quality awareness in all areas.

 

  • To carry out innovative technological and goal-oriented studies in coordination with the health policies of the country.

 

  • To ensure the realization of high-efficient competitive outputs with university-public-industry cooperation.

 

As of January 2023, the Institute of Health Sciences has a total of seventeen master's and eleven doctorate programs. Eleven of the former are thesis and the others are non-thesis master's programs. Under the newly established integrated medical science doctorate program, there are three disciplines. Thus, The Institute has a wide variety of programs that appeal to different aspects of the field of health. As of the same date, the number of active students of the Institute is 184.  A total of 239 students graduated from the Institute so far. One hundred and eighty-six of them were from master's and 53 of them were from doctorate programs.
