The Department of Medical Microbiology has been established since the beginning of the BVU Medical Faculty and Hospital. The Department continues to work intensively in the fields of education, health service delivery and research. The Department of Medical Microbiology contributes to undergraduate and associate degree education at BVU Faculty of Medicine and other faculties and colleges of the University. The Department of Medical Microbiology also carries out routine work in the Microbiology Laboratory of BVU Training and Research Hospital. The faculty members of the Department continue their research in the fields of medical bacteriology, virology, mycology and parasitology.
