The purpose of this program is to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to conduct evidence-based scientific research in the field of orthodontics, enabling the treatment of various malocclusions of teeth and jaws in children during growth and development, as well as in completed development or adult patients, without age limitations, either through orthodontic treatments alone or in conjunction with orthognathic surgery. Our orthodontic clinic, led by experienced, dynamic, and successful academic staff, provides treatment services using the latest technology in accordance with current knowledge. International protocols and practices are standard references in patient treatments. In addition to education, patient care, and scientific research, our department continues its research and development activities to contribute to the orthodontic literature. Scientific research projects supported by our university and national institutions are also conducted and planned to support scientific advancement.
Our clinic, located on the second floor of Block B of the Dentistry Faculty, consists of 22 dental units. Patient planning in the Orthodontics Department is carried out every week during routine case meetings attended by all our doctors and faculty members in our meeting room, where detailed treatment plans are discussed and decided for each patient. Additionally, within our department, there is an analysis laboratory for patient treatment records and computer analyses, an orthodontic laboratory for appliance fabrication, and an imaging room for patient photography.
To train highly knowledgeable professionals in dentistry, weekly theoretical and practical specialization/doctorate courses are regularly conducted in our department throughout the academic year, separately scheduled for the fall and summer terms. Specialization and doctoral students participate in weekly case meetings where they enhance their diagnostic and treatment planning skills in detail. They also keep up with current orthodontic literature through weekly article discussions and seminar presentations. Furthermore, on certain days of the week, examination and surgical planning for patients undergoing orthognathic surgery are conducted at our clinic through bedside discussions with relevant faculty members specializing in this area.
