CUHK International Summer School
Established in 2004, the CUHK International Summer School (ISS) has been one of the most popular undergraduate summer programmes in the region. Each year, numerous international and local students join the July and August Sessions of the ISS to experience its intensive academic sessions and Chinese culture immersion programmes in a multicultural learning environment.
July Session (25 June – 2 August 2023)
In the five-week programme, you can take up to two 3-credit courses, each with 42 contact hours, taught entirely in English. Areas of study include:
- Environment, Science and Technology
- Global Business and Management
- Society and Human Interaction
- Understanding China
- Chinese Language (Putonghua and Cantonese)
August Session (6 – 26 August 2023)
In the three-week programme, you can take two 3-credit courses of intensive Chinese language training in Putonghua at various levels. The programme will provide an opportunity for you to acquire pragmatic competence in the Chinese language through classroom learning and immersion activities.

About the Program
Kwansei Gakuin
The center for Japanese Language Education at Kwansei Gakuin University (KGU) welcomes students from our partner institutions to join the intensive Japanese Language and Culture Study Program every summer and winter.
This is three-week program designed for those who wish to improve their communication skills in Japanese language while increasing their understanding of Japanese culture through a variety of activities. There are three different levels for Japanese language classes, beginner, elementary, and intermediate, offering an interactive approach through lessons with KGU students who will support international students in classes. The program will not only focus on language studies. We offer a variety of cultural learning opportunities in addition to the regular language classes, students will also be able to engage with Japanese Culture Study classes, traditional arts and other cultural activities including a fieldtrip to a historically rich place like Kyoto.
This is a great opportunity for you to add a global experience to your studies. Come and join us to learn more about Japan with people from all over the world.

KWANSEI GAKUIN UNIVERSITY (KGU)
Summer School 2023
The KGU Summer School is a joint program run by Kwansei Gakuin University (KGU) and our select partner institutions. This 5-week program offers “East Asian Study" track – you can select courses that suit your interest, allowing you to study a variety of topics related to Japan and East Asia along with KGU students. Courses in the East Asian Study track are taught by KGU faculty member and visiting lecturers from our partner institutions covering a wide range of topics such as politics, religions, international relations, business and economics to explore many different aspects of East Asia.
Students participating in this program will benefit greatly, not only from the academic values, but also from the cultural exchange experience.

Program Schedule
June 11 – Arrival Day All participants must arrive in Japan on the specified date, will stay at a hotel near Kansai International Airport on the night of their arrival. Hotel rooms will be arranged by KGU.
June 12 – Going to KGU Orientation Day A chartered bus will pick you up at the hotel and take you to KGU.

Canada-Japan Collaborative Program for Educating World Citizens as Future Leaders
Certificate Program (CP)
The Certificate Program (CP) is a program that offers certificates to students from the operating five universities, and by receiving this certificate, students are considered to have completed their study at CCC. Students will work collaboratively to find solutions to specific business issues through taking part in practical courses, which will be undertaken in English. A completion certificate will be issued by all five universities to students who have acquired all of the required credits.

Global Career Seminar (GCS)
The Global Career Seminar (GCS) is a forum where groups of student from Canada and Japan come together to find solutions for problems that corporations and organizations have posed. Students will gain basic knowledge of international and Japanese businesses as well as business analysis methods through watching online pre-seminar lectures.
After watching the online lectures, students will gather to spend a week with their peer students, meet with representatives from companies and organizations, and receive feedback from them after giving group presentations.
We provide two seminars every year; at the KGU campus in August (GCS in Japan) and at U of Toronto campus in February (GCS in Canada). While GCS in Japan allows students to experience daily life and culture in Japan for 10 days, GCS in Canada a more intensive program which takes place during the Ontario Reading Week.
GCS will be offered online when in-person program is not feasible.
Global Internship (GI)
This program allows students to experience working at a company/organization in Japan for approximately two weeks. Two students from different cultural backgrounds work together in pairs, and learn the importance of cooperation and mutual understanding through working together towards a common goal. During coursework prior to the internship, students will learn about the Japanese economy and business trends, as well as characteristics of the industry and business they will be working for.
After the internship, students will report and present their findings to share with other participants.
Period – 16 days in mid to late August
Credit – 3 credits at KGU (3.0 at Mount Allison and Queen's, 0.5 at King's and U of T)
Venue – Kwansei Gakuin University and Company/Organization in Japan
